a rare long weekend

    it’s mostly business, not pleasure, but somehow it’s a mix of both. Gave my paper on Lucretius yesterday, which went very well, and my colleagues did very well also. Glad to have it over with, and today I enjoyed a number of different panels. Somehow, paradoxically, it’s exhausting sitting through papers. Mentally exhausting if nothing else, but somehow there’s a physical component to it as well. I was up and running from about 09.30 to about 22.30 today, so it’s been a long goddamn day. (more…)

 

brief excursion

    So I’m off for the next few days, presenting a paper at a conference. I’ve been looking forward to this for awhile now — first conference I’ve ever done. The semester is slowly but surely winding down, and we’re constantly hurtling towards the bitter end. This is my final semester of proper classes. Two papers stand between me and almost-candidacy, one of which is half-done, and the other which I’ll write this week in my spare time when not presenting or listening to papers. I’m so glad that summer is almost upon us, because I could use a break. Life has been really pretty crazy lately. multa nova multis miris modis eveniunt, let’s say. And I’ve been rather happy as a result. (more…)
