thunderstorms went on for at least 2 or 3 hours today, pouring down rain and lightning flashing like false dawn, the thunder shaking the windows and our flat proper. Nicole was downtown working, of course, for most of it; it was hot and humid when she came home for lunch, but soon gave way to rainstorms. I never know if I’m hearing thunder or not half the time, so I usually don’t realise it until I look out the window and it’s pouring. (more…)

maybe I do need some NLP self-hypnosis shit, who knows. turn on the brain more often. i’m not going to worry about stupid shit. trying very hard not to. Nicole keeps referring me to this passage in Epictetos’ Enkheiridion, if I’m remembering correctly, which says that all you can control is how you react to things — nothing else in life, not even the way your body reacts to things.
it’s been a hot, humid, languid summer. almost over, but i’m trying to make the most of what’s remaining.
relax, take it easy. AND DON’T FUCKING STRESS ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN’T CHANGE. I need to take others’ advice, and I’ve also been telling myself that for years (we seldom listen to our own pronouncements or advice however).

right, it’s been awhile since I last wrote. returned from Oregon Wednesday last week, sleepy-eyed and groggy, head full of music and half-remembered waking dreams, soul catching up to the future in Florida. Nicole, lovely as always, picked me up from the airport, although my flight arrived around an hour late to Jacksonville; thank the gods she wasn’t waiting too long there. we drove back, and it was hot and humid again, a change from the dry heat in Oregon (which itself was strange). had a nice lunch of some Mexican food, then I came home, chilled a bit, and crashed out for six hours, waking up at 22.00. the sleep schedule’s still being tweaked. went to the coast today with my parents, my sister, and my grandparents, with their dog Lili in tow as well. it’s been in the 90s here the past few days, but the coast promised to be probably 20 or 30 degrees cooler, and it certainly delivered. cool breezes as we walked around downtown Florence, saw the little shops and the sights, and just walked around in the sunshine. been hot lately. drove home tonight amid the city lights, stars all over the sky when I got out. haven’t done a whole lot the past few days. Saw Vanessa last night, played some Wii and just hung out, which was great; she’s off to Sunriver for a few days with her family. we’ll be meeting up again on Monday to get pizza from this vegan place downtown, sounds quite interesting. Her friend Jen is coming along as well, which will be nice; she’s a nice girl but I’ve never really spent all that much time with her, unfortunately. (more…)

been in Oregon for a little less than a week now. it’s been a very relaxing time so far. Got in, tired as can be, around 13.30 on Wednesday the 30th. I stayed up all night before that, as we needed to leave for Jacksonville around 04.00. I was fading a bit as I drove there; thank the gods that I made it through safely. Nicole walked in the airport briefly with me, gave me a hug and wished me a safe flight and a safe trip, and she turned around to go back home, and eventually to work. (more…)
