    what a busy time it’s been here, much as I expected when entering a PhD program. not only busy with schoolwork, but hanging out with and getting to know my classmates, whom I can’t say have been more friendly or welcoming. I’m pleasantly surprised every day how cool all of them are, and I’m really glad to be here — in a great program, with some great people. it’s strange, but I feel like I’ve known them for years, or at least a lot longer than the month or so I’ve been here.     gods, I’ve been busy lately. school’s kept me running about a lot; did a presentation on Tuesday for class on pater Ennius, our good friend and “father of Roman poetry.” School has been challenging but not too bad — just right, I think, and I’m really liking it. Our stuff arrived on the moving truck on Labor Day earlier this week, and we’re now in the process of unpacking and sorting through things; it’ll take a while. (more…)
