in a short time, 2008 will wither away and a new year will pop up in its place, spinning through the circles of years as everything continues to revolve. it’s been a decent year overall, although not without its difficulties. Obama’s win on 04 November was one of the high points for sure, not just of the year, but in the last eight years at the very least. But many fell along the way throughout the year, and they will be missed… most recently, Eartha Kitt and Harold Pinter, to name a couple. Nicole summed it up well: “2008 can fuck right off.” (more…)

i’m up in Oregon now, have been since Monday afternoon, and it’s calm up here. been busy with family and such for the last few days, hence I’m writing now, but otherwise it’s been great. all my PhD applications are done; I finished them by last Friday, a week ago (but it seems longer). it’s a great weight lifted from my shoulders, and now all I can do is wait and, of course, write my thesis. I’ve not thought about a whole lot of that whilst up here though. Nicole and I talk when we can, but she’s doing her own thing and I mine, but we find time to talk and catch up. I do miss her, but I’ll be back not long after the start of the year and it’ll be great to see her again. (more…)

last week I felt more dead than alive, trying to recuperate and win through this cold. I’m still fighting it off, but only halfheartedly now, since it’s at the tail end; the worst it’s thrown at me is a stuffy nose, which I deal with on a daily basis anyways. it’s bittersweet that real life returns like a blast of cold air with the advent of this week. it’s been cold much of the day. even when it was bright and sunny earlier the chill lingered. I see this as the start of winter and the stark white skies it brings. (more…)
