the far-shining light of belated Dawn

It’s been a long week, somehow, and I’m glad to be in a somewhat better spot tonight. The election went well on Tuesday, as I said before, yet I was a bit scared about my meeting with my advisor on Friday. I hadn’t gotten as much done as I would have liked on my thesis, and I resolved to work on it all night Thursday as a result. Don’t try this at home, kids, for it’s oft-fruitless and inane.
yet I pulled through and passed through the night somehow. I somehow managed to write about nine or ten pages that night, and I worked from about 22.00 until 03.00, then slept for an hour or two, then got back to it from 06.00 to 09.00 Friday morning. When I had a respectable total of about 21 pages, I went to my desktop to print it out, and lo and behold (ecce!), I received an email from my advisor saying that he was sick and needed to reschedule until Monday.
Oh well, it happens. I just wanted to sleep after that, and I did for awhile, but I needed to sort out some business on campus, so I reluctantly went over there later in the day. I’m just glad I got that many pages done regardless, and I’ve gotten a couple more done since then. I’ve regained some of the sleep I lost as a result, yet I’m still trying to catch up from the “extra hour” that’s thrown me off from the start of the week.
Nicole and I watched Tron last night, and it was my first time seeing the movie. It’s ridiculous considering how much of a ‘nerd’ I am, but hey, I just never got around to seeing it. To be honest, I thought it was going to be lame for the longest time, and maybe that’s why I didn’t see it for so long. But it was badass, and I really enjoyed it. We recorded it off of G4 a month or so ago, since although we had it on Nicole’s Netflix, it was far down on the queue and we figured we’d just watch the recorded version from TV and fast-forward through commercials.
I’ve also been still listening to that “dark ambient” music I got recently. I don’t recall whether I mentioned it before, but it’s a whole mishmash of artists, and it’s all quite fascinating. It’s some bloody murderous, evil, occult, often Satanic sort of shit, much of it with very ritualistic rhythms and an unearthly, chthonic atmosphere pervading all of it. The best example I can give of its sound is that it reminds me of old ’70s horror movies. And I’m loving it, gloomy as it is. I’ll keep working through more of it, and load it on the iPod once I’ve finished reviewing it.
Writing my thesis, to take it back to that for a moment, has given me a lot more experience in reading Greek epic, for which I am thankful; it’s been a veritable crash-course in the stuff. I’ve been looking at Homer and Quintus back and forth, as well as other sources, but all the hexameters I’ve looked at have immensely helped my epic Greek. Thanks, Homer! And thanks especially to Quintus!
I found out we have Tuesday off from work, since it’s Veterans’ Day, and I’ll probably just be studying that day instead of working. It’s nice to have that day though for sure. And my friend Anna is ostensibly coming on the 19th or 20th; I’ve not heard from her for a bit but I hope she confirms with me soon. I can’t wait to see her! It’s creeping closer and I hadn’t realised that until just a day or two ago.
It rained most of the day today, but I didn’t leave the house, strangely enough, so I didn’t really partake of any of that. I should have gotten out for some fresh air, but we’ll do so tomorrow. We’re going to see series “B” of the plays tomorrow afternoon (15.00, so I hear through the grapevine), so that’ll be nice to get out and about for a bit. I’ve really been trying to do my best at writing more, though, on my thesis that is (and on here as I can) — and I’m going to do a lot more of it tomorrow. I need to start my chapter on Memnon and Antilochos, since I’ve finished most of my chapter on Penthesileia; I need to look at more of the secondary sources to add more to my Penthesileia chapter, but I think I’ve got a lot of the work done with 23 pages down.
Just wanted to write something quick for now. I don’t have a whole lot to say (ha ha, Cicero didn’t either) though, so I’ll leave it here. Have a wonderful night, and say hello to Dawn of the rosy fingers when you see her, okay?
