rainy antithesis

it rained once whilst up here, and that was only fleeting, disappearing in about thirty minutes to an hour. otherwise it’s been streaming sunshine and in the high 60s and low 70s, which is a temperature range agreeable to me. even now, this morning, the sun shines through the thick canopy of trees above. it’s been a nice time here. to the land of rain and trees

no, i’m not staying here, although the two places are analogous in many ways. i’m off to Oregon for a week; we’re leaving Wednesday. my parents should be here within the hour. i’m excited really. it’s been about threeish months since I’ve been back home, so it’ll be good to go back for a little while. my paycheck has hit a snag, as I probably said before, but it’ll get sorted; i’m not even going to stress about it, as it’s out of my hands.
i just wanted to have a final communication before I depart, so this is likely it. i’ll write as I can whilst up there, but it won’t be as often (or infrequent, rather, lol) as I write when I’m here. i hope all of you are well, and that June is treating you well thus far. it’s been a decent month for me thus far. this is the highlight of it though I’d say. and oh yeah, the French Amazon finally took my money out, so I’m assuming they’re shipping my Quintus books soon. joy!
    peace.

cold and cloudy skies

the last week has been interesting weatherwise. hotter than it should be a couple of days ago, but otherwise it’s been cold and windy, a brilliant combination in my opinion. one of my ideal weather scenarios is temperatures in the 60s, and a breeze, if not a full on wind blowing. and it makes me smile to see the fog flowing by overhead, whipped along through the dark sky by the winds. tonight was such a night, and Nicole and I walked back to our flat after we got off of the train under the foggy vault of heaven. the night burns bright

it’s mid-week again. i’m more tired than i can explain, and i think it’s because I went to bed too late last night. it hasn’t hit me this hard in awhile, though. I think I got sunburnt today, too, since there’s lingering redness on my face from my short time in the sun today. but that will pass as things do their daily reconfiguration, that biological dance they do. in about a week I’ll be back in Oregon. it seems like a long time from now, but the weekend is almost upon us; hell, tomorrow is Thursday. and i shall sleep dark and deep before long. relative silence

it’s been all too short of a weekend, but very restful. I picked up Metal Gear Solid 2 after six years and beat it; I was only two boss fights from the end. it was heartening. also, I ordered some books through ILLIAD, which should get here soon enough. i’m tired, although thankfully I’m not off to work until 10 tomorrow; we’re playing this week by ear due to the budget constraints and such. I trust this week will bring some more work though, thankfully; my workload stalled by mid-last week. (more…)

for a sunny day

a couple of nights ago, I was talking with Vanessa, and she said jokingly to “think of something witty” while she was away from the computer for a few. so I did, as is my wont, and generated something out of thin air for her. and I thought of something redolent of winter, the cold and the chill, and perhaps it served an apotropaic function in a way even, since it’s streaming sunshine this morning and skies are blue and nigh cloudless. so here’s what i wrote below.
she sells seashells by the seashore, but seashells shan’t be sold by the seashore since such said seashells shall be sourced sans fee!
(the above was just something I threw out there to fuck around with alliteration)

the end of all paths is also the beginning.
and brilliance may rise and fall
but over the grey seas we are winning
and eventually shall rest in our own strong stone hall.
at home in the depths of the garden
the autumn chill seeping into our bones
we forgot, begging your pardon
to pick you a flowering, frozen rose of scarlet tone
and call us back you may, from times past and gone
for a laugh and a few chords of song
but until then we shall part ways as we fade into the haze
forgotten are the memories of that frightful blaze.

i guess i was thinking of ancient Europe or something of the like; it almost had an old Norse sort of feel to it in some ways. but think of it what you may, I shan’t colour your opinions further.
work is going well. i’m just taking a bit of a break after finishing one task, and thought I’d pop in to write something quickly. I go back to Oregon in about 11 or 12 days now, and I’m excited about it. More exciting is my payday on the 13th, though. enjoy the sun, if you have the privilege.

These days my entries have been more fractured and less focused. Such is life. I do what I can to give a glimpse into my life, a snapshot if possible. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

talk to me if you'd like to know something about me, or keep reading. I'm still a poor grad student and working on my PhD. I don't really know whether this will become a book anymore, but it's not wholly improbable.
