the shores of Dis

it’s midnight-ish, and I don’t know where the last seven hours have gone. with making dinner and everything and all the whole lot of nothing I did, there hasn’t been time to do my Latin, on which I have a test tomorrow. I’m not too worried about it, but I do need to read some articles to discuss in class tomorrow as well, so I will work on that tomorrow probably. I’ll do what I can tonight, but I do want to go to sleep soon, seeing as I didn’t sleep all that well last night. the day’s flown by today. the podcasts make my day go a lot faster, and I’m infinitely surprised and happy at the amazing battery life of my iPod. I suppose I’m not really switching tracks as is my wont, though, so that probably helps things; less hard drive read access and all means less battery. (more…)

Nous does not control me

I finished my incomplete for Presocratics today, after a year of putting it off. Phew. It’s not the best paper I put out, but it’s good enough. so far I’m sticking with my timeline; this week I start and finish the Pompeii paper, albeit with less tools than I need to do the job properly. Oh well — I’m great when working between a rock and a hard place. With enough resolve, I manage to turn things around even in the deepest and darkest of places — but if that resolve isn’t there sometimes I shatter. it was a long night. (more…)

it’s been a long week, despite my lack of working on my Presocratics paper. That comes tomorrow and Sunday; the ataraxia of sleep will loosen my limbs soon, however, as a buffer against impending labor. it’s been a relatively uneventful week. on Thursday, I finally ended up buying the Extras box-set (both seasons + Christmas special), although when I got it home I found it was defective; the 2nd disc of the first season was missing. I remedied this problem earlier tonight, however, by taking it back and exchanging it at Borders. No problems there. LOST was amazing last night, as always; it’s getting better every episode. the watery ways

rain is coming tomorrow, so I hear, and I’ll bring my fancy new-ish umbrella with me so as to prevent any soakage. eight or nine hours of glorious podcasts, too, if I’m lucky, and zoning out tomorrow at work. it’s been a long couple of weeks (or week? the time is passing strangely). i shouldn’t be up this late, given the fact that I have work tomorrow at 9, but fuck it, I’ll go to sleep soon. my graduation application is finished and I should be all set to graduate in May, and Dr. Leitao advised that I make a timeline in order to make sure I get my two (2) incompletes finished, as well as the thesis started (projected: start of March). Our Classics book sale went fantastically; we made upwards of $1K, the most we’ve made in a long while. I’m very excited about that. (more…)

there is no catharsis

last thursday, effectively, I moved in with Nicole. everything is moved in now, books are all put away for the time being, snug in their shelves, and I’m unpacking everything else slowly but surely. it is beginning to feel much like home, and I’m enjoying it so far. i told her last night that it’s nice to come home to her, at which she chuckled and said “you’re funny!” and smiled warmly. we keep a nice household, i’ve found, and it’s been relatively relaxing. I bought a new bed, too, for about $700 plus tax; a little expensive, but worth it. it’s given me great sleep. we also ended up getting at&t digital cable (“U-Verse”), TV-over-IP (IPTV I guess?), as well as 5Mbit (or 6?) internet. it’s worked out well.         These days my entries have been more fractured and less focused. Such is life. I do what I can to give a glimpse into my life, a snapshot if possible. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

talk to me if you'd like to know something about me, or keep reading. I'm still a poor grad student and working on my PhD. I don't really know whether this will become a book anymore, but it's not wholly improbable.

feel free to drop me comments on here, or even an email at:
