computer explosion

my computer died on Sunday morning, or perhaps sometime during the night. when I woke up, it was off, and repeated presses of the power button did nothing. I’ve concluded that it was likely the power supply that finally gave up the ghost. however, it’s not worth replacing the power supply, since many components are close to 10 years old in that fucking thing, so I might as well just get a new computer. when I explained this to my parents last night, they were surprisingly receptive, and said we would get this resolved within a week or two, thankfully. phew. they’ll help me buy one, since they’ve been saying they would for a year now — and now it’s a necessity for me, because it’s ridiculously difficult to function as a grad student sans computer.
so I shall not be on IM clients for a good while, I think, nor shall I be able to write all that much — but I haven’t been able to write much as is, so that’s not much different. I miss it, but you know how it is, with school and everything, and now this. but I am still here, I’m surviving, and feeling pretty good for the most part. Nicole was very understanding about the whole thing too; she said she would have been devastated if it happened as well, so I was glad about that. I will miss those of you whom I talk to on a regular basis, but you (hopefully) have my cell, and can text me or call if needed, and I will do the same. it’s just been strange adapting to not having a computer, even though it’s only been a couple of days.
anyways, back to work. I just wanted to write a brief blurb on here to let you know of the situation and of my continued livelihood. I’m battling a ruinous disease, some sort of common yet irritating cold, though, and trying to get over that, but otherwise fine. it’s just the general feeling of being sick that really sucks, you know? anyways, gotta go. hope you all are well.

so I’ve won my share of battles lately. moral battles, most of them, and battles of will, trying to get homework done in a timely manner. my life, lately, has been ridiculously busy — as it is often wont to be. My professors are also asking me what I’m going to write my thesis upon, and I’m trying to figure that out while looking at what schools I intend to apply to. outside it’s raining, one of the first rains in months (except for a sprinkle or two awhile back, that is), and the sound through my cracked-open window is pleasant. reminds me of Oregon. which reminds me, i need to get some sort of ticket back to Eugene for december. i’m working on that too. (more…)

These days my entries have been more fractured and less focused. Such is life. I do what I can to give a glimpse into my life, a snapshot if possible. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

talk to me if you'd like to know something about me, or keep reading. I'm still a poor grad student and working on my PhD. I don't really know whether this will become a book anymore, but it's not wholly improbable.
