it’s been a long week already, even though it’s only Wednesday. after last night, the fugue state of cosmic horror I was enveloped within dissipated, giving way to an ataraxic calm. last weekend was nice, although I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked. Nicole and I had a good time, though, relaxing and doing our thing, as well as spending all of Sunday (well, most of it at least) at the library reading Pindar. we watched The Thin Man on Saturday night — a movie which I hadn’t seen in about four years. well, since junior year of undergrad, and I think that was about four years ago — I can’t even remember these days. the days are going too quickly lately. the work piles up faster than it can be shoveled away. and here i am, sinking in this mire. it’s really not all that bad, I’m just being melodramatic, but I’ve gotten significantly less sleep lately than I should. that leads me to naturally seek an earlier bedtime, at least tonight if nothing else. i’ve not had much time to write these days, either, as you have probably noticed. i’ve actually avoided writing in some cases, because in some ways I feel guilty about it — if it’s not time spent studying, it’s not worthwhile these days. this is ironic, however, as I spend time doing other things instead of homework — I just feel like if I’m writing something, though, it should be a paper (foreshadowing!) or something of the like, not something on here. so it’s been awhile since I last wrote. I am aware of that — lest you think I have forgotten this important, important fact. school is in full swing, two seminars (one Greek, one Comp Lit [ugh]) are in session, plus a Greek class, in which the material might be taught better as a seminar. I’ve seen three of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time in the last two weeks or so. I’m happy to be busy and out and about in the world, exiting the cocoon surrounding me which summer wrought. there are a lot of arduous days ahead, although the sun blazes brightly overhead. I have glorious, lovely, night-shining Nicole, and she, in turn, is accompanying me on what will be the other bright light in an otherwise normal fall: the Disneyland trip my family and the two of us are taking over Thanksgiving. I can’t fucking wait for that, let me tell you (toi), because I’ve not been there in probably ten years. Good things are never all that far away, if you know where to look. (more…)
