the barrow of great-hearted Ilos

so last night was a success. we went to The Stinking Rose for dinner — that is, Jenn, Nicole and I — and it was delectable. Jenn treated the both of us as a sort of “victory dinner” after successfully moving her into her new place. we had a difficult time getting there by our 19.00 reservation, trying to get on a 30 Stockton around 18.30 — the bus which would take us to the restaurant, eventually. we gave up, though, and decided to walk it; we were meeting Nicole there at 19.00, and she was already there by the time we started walking. we made it by 18.50, and went inside the restaurant shortly after that. overlooking the bay

views from on high are generally the best, but looking up at the wide sky above never hurts either. the picture that is crystallised in my head right now is of the San Francisco Bay, as seen from Broadway and Fillmore streets. I only caught a glimpse of it from the 22 bus, but it was brilliant, the view from the crest of a rather steep hill. there were a number of clouds that threatened to chase away the sun, but it was bright nonetheless, and you could see all the way to the Richmond Bridge, a fact which Nicole pointed out to me. at that point we were in the midst of a nice, relaxing Sunday together. and I’ll get to that in due time. an inexplicably beautiful thing

Music, that is. but more on that later. I did in fact get back safely. the trip from Eugene took about 10 or 11hrs, with breaks for meals and gas, of course. we left around 09.30 or hell, maybe even closer to 10, and made relatively good time. my dad told me that he planned on driving me down, dropping me off, then turning around and heading back, despite the fact that I said it’d be fine if he stayed with me. I drove for about an hour or so of the trip, near the very end, and at some point we switched off and he drove the rest of the way into the city. (more…)

back to familiar shores

in a few hours, I will be getting up and leaving for San Francisco with my dad. it’s been a long and eventful stay up here in Eugene — almost too long, but at the same time it was just right. I’m going to miss everyone up here, but I miss Nicole most of all, and I’m happier than ever to be going back to her warm arms. the journey will be long, as usual, but ultimately cathartic. I’m going to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at midnight on Wednesday, which will be fantastic in IMAX. and of course I’ll be with Nicole and friends, happy as can be. my dad is most likely going to turn around and go home after a brief respite, but he may end up staying the night; I’m not quite sure. after the dust settled

wow, it’s been an eventful couple of days. hung out with my grandparents a bit Saturday afternoon, which was nice. we went to an estate sale, which initially sounded like fun. however, estate sales aren’t as comfortable as garage sales. at garage sales, you can usually haggle with the people there, maybe make offers if necessary, but at estate sales, all is marked and the printed word rules. there wasn’t much there I found interesting; the only thing of any real interest was a Biblical-looking translation of Josephus’ Jewish War, although that’s not my style. most of the books were of a hyper-Christian nature. waking dream

Ξ Saturday, 07 Jul 2007 at 02:54 | → Comments Off | ∇ Normal |

today was an interesting day, to say the least. nothing much happened in the early hours, which were reserved for waking up and greeting the day in a way i saw fit. tonight I planned on going to fix Jenn’s computer (unpleasantry, for the most part), and perhaps hang out with Christine as well. although I was planning on going over there around 16.00 or 17.00, she told me I ought to come at 20.00 or 21.00 instead, so I changed my plans in that respect. I made my “bacon cheeseburger” pizza for lunch, and actually did it correctly; it was quite good, I must say, for a Kraft-backed DiGiorno pizza. (more…)

  • about me

These days my entries have been more fractured and less focused. Such is life. I do what I can to give a glimpse into my life, a snapshot if possible. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

talk to me if you'd like to know something about me, or keep reading. I'm still a poor grad student and working on my PhD. I don't really know whether this will become a book anymore, but it's not wholly improbable.

feel free to drop me comments on here, or even an email at:
