as the sun retreats

it’s been an interesting although not wholly eventful day. after going to sleep at close to 3am, I woke up around 09.15; my dad wanted to go to breakfast. i got dressed and such, and we were out the door by 9.30. an early morning, early as of late I suppose. we went to the country club, at which my dad is a member, and got breakfast there, sitting out at a table right near the first tee of the golf course. the breakfast was good; I got eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. I didn’t feel like pancakes, really. it was a bright morning with a bit of a chill in the air, but not too bad. (more…)

un petit écrit

don’t worry, i’m not a French expert. I just started reading French for Reading tonight, and I feel like I’ve made remarkable progress; I got through about 13 sections of the text thus far. most of the initial exercises deal with cognates and false cognates; with these cognates, half of the work is already done if you know English in any substantial capacity, a fact for which I am thankful. I think if I keep studying this, I’ll definitely be ready for the French MA exam in December or so. I figure once I finish the book, I can try out an article or two from L’Annee at some point.
but enough of that. i’m on my way to sleep, and I just thought I’d write something small. I’ve had more time to write as of late, so I’ve been trying to use it if possible, which has been nice. it’s time to sleep now, however, sad as that may be. my bed here is cool, not cold, and cosy as a result; it’s not too hot and not too cold. and it calls, so I must take my leave. sleep well.

i am not a morning person

it’s early, and i would much rather be sleeping in, but I ended up taking my mum to work and then coming back here. my dad needs a ride from the airport in about an hour, so I’m going to get him as well. but i really am not a morning person, i just play one on TV. since being here I’ve rather enjoyed sleeping in, at least until 9 or 10; that is ’sleeping in’ these days. this is a far cry from 2005, when ’sleeping in’ meant anywhere from noon until six at night, so at least I’m lucky in that respect. I had a lot less to do those days. once you get a girlfriend, time becomes a bit more valuable, and naturally, the ways you spend it drastically change, generally for the better. while I’m up here, though, I’m seeing friends and such, and just chilling out with the family in general, which changes things a bit too; I’m still sleeping in, but just not as late. inimical and inimitable

another lazy day here. sleep fades in and out like death incarnate, soporific as ever and doubly clever. one loses sense of time when there are no obligations; the only markers of passing time, besides a watch, are when to eat and sleep. whole worlds of possibility await, and so do worlds of literature within my backpack; I need to read more of my books. I have been reading the Iliad still (book 8 now!), although it’s slow going in general since I’m trying to enjoy it, and not read too fast. the sun rises and the sun sets, and everything is alright under the vault of starry heaven. before sleep overtakes me

I got in at 04.30 on Sunday morning, just so you know — into Eugene, that is. we had a long haul that night. i woke up around 09.00 that morning, got out the door by about 09.50, and my sister, my dad and I hopped on an N towards Powell. we met Nicole in the “old” mall; she was sitting down having coffee, and had apparently been there since 09.30, so as to not be late. we planned on seeing 1408 at 11.30 that morning, and wanted to meet up by 10.30, and we got there just on time. we went to Denny’s for breakfast, on the other side of Bloomingdale’s, which didn’t take too long; my dad was incredulous about the prices there. it is San Francisco, after all. afterwards, having bought our tickets, we headed into the movie. Notos speeds us along

Ξ Friday, 22 Jun 2007 at 19:35 | → Comments Off | ∇ Normal |

my dad and sister are on their way southward to pick me up, and we’re leaving tomorrow afternoon or night. northward we head, racing the sun and moon and everything in between, outstripping many beneath the starry skies. would that Notos gusts and speeds us along on our way as we make our way north. ostensibly we’re going to lunch and a movie and meeting up with Nicole, so we’ll figure out the details and such. it’ll be really nice to get back to Eugene, although I’m going to miss Nicole terribly. it’s not for too long, though; I’ll get to Eugene 24 Jun, and I’ll be back here 10 or 11 July (we need to figure that out still). I don’t have all that much to write at the moment, since I’m kind of out of it.
I still need to do a bit of packing (mostly clothes), but otherwise I’m ready to go. I’m not taking much except for books and maybe a DVD or two, so I’m definitely packing light. anyways, I’ll be around, and I’m sure I’ll see a lot of my friends when I’m up in Eugene, which will be great. Vanessa said the Wii is all ready for me, which sounds delightful.
    life is great.

These days my entries have been more fractured and less focused. Such is life. I do what I can to give a glimpse into my life, a snapshot if possible. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

talk to me if you'd like to know something about me, or keep reading. I'm still a poor grad student and working on my PhD. I don't really know whether this will become a book anymore, but it's not wholly improbable.
