into the known

off towards home tonight. first time i’ve been home since July. aside from my family, among my cognoscentes and familiares, of whom there are few anymore in Eugene, I count a few special people. I am going to see Vanessa at some point tomorrow, since I think she is leaving for a trip on Thanksgiving Day (if I remember correctly). it’s going to be fantastic to do so, because I’ve missed her dearly, and we’ll have a nice time tomorrow night. I want to see Claude as well, since we’ve been best friends since 2001 when I met the guy, and so we’ll do something while I’m home. I want to see Leora also, last but not least (for this is in no particular order that I list my dear friends’ names); we have been friends since about 2001 as well, so a long while. Since she lives in Eugene now instead of Oakridge, it’s much easier to see her, besides the fact that she has a car now. I may see some others, but I want to make sure I see these three in particular.
so I’ve packed all my clothes, with the intention of throwing the dirty ones in the laundry when I get back home: free laundry @ parents’ house = awesome. I’ve also loaded up my backpack with prosem books, some of which I hope to read while en route northward. Nothing else is important over the break, at least in terms of homework, for the rest can wait, so I’ve only brought a notebook, a pen, and these books I’m consulting. Cell charger, toiletries, etc. will be packed as well. Otherwise, things look good… I’m only going to be gone for a couple of days, so I’m not stressing too much about it. hopefully I’ll be able to get video game accessories home with me as well — the cables for my PS2 at the very least. the rest I may have to save for another trip.
life is good, though. Nicole’s at work right now, but she will be done soon and we’re going to have some lunch together down in the Castro, then I think we’re going to the library so she can pick up some books. Back to my place after that, where we’ll chill and such, and we’ll have dinner before I have to get to the train station at 21.25 tonight. I am going to miss her so, but I’m happy to be going home for a little while at least. we’ve spent a long weekend together, and I’ve enjoyed it for sure. the twice-baked potatoes she made last night were fucking fantastic, too. so was the new episode of Heroes.
in any case, I’ll see you all on the flipside, probably Sunday or so — I’m taking a Greyhound at around 10pm on Saturday night, and I’ll be back by Sunday afternoon if everything goes well. Have a happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and be safe when you’re travelling. peace.

Odysseus of many wiles

so it’s been a good week. survived amid a mass of homework and such, a Latin exam (Monday, I think?), and a presentation in Latin on Friday. Nicole took her Greek MA exam on Wednesday, understandably under stress, but I think she did really well and may have even passed! (The thing is, many don’t pass on the first try, kind of like no one ever makes the jump their first try in the Matrix simulator…. no disrespect meant to Nicole in my saying “may have”). On Friday, we celebrated Nicole and Krista’s birthdays (“It’s my birthday observed,” both of them could be heard saying throughout the night) — Nicole’s is on the 21st (tomorrow, that is), and Krista’s is on Wednesday. So… (more…)

a much needed break

Ξ Friday, 10 Nov 2006 at 00:28 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Normal |

tomorrow is a much-needed break from school, even if it is only a Friday off — I’ll be getting some homework done, namely Latin (and also reading some Prosem stuff such as Foucault), amid the wonderful presence of my dear Nicole. life is good these days, although very busy and stressful as well. I’m somewhat worried about my prosem presentation, since I’ve not formally started on it yet (agh!), but I am going to bust my ass and get it into gear ASAP. Life has flowed eternal, each day bringing new challenges and/or delights, and I feel pretty good. I can’t wait for my trip back home on the 21st, which coincides with Nicole’s birthday (this is no accident, though) — I’m going to spend the day with Nicole and then hopefully get on a plane that night for Eugene. awesome.         These days my entries have been more fractured and less focused. Such is life. I do what I can to give a glimpse into my life, a snapshot if possible. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

talk to me if you'd like to know something about me, or keep reading. I'm still a poor grad student and working on my PhD. I don't really know whether this will become a book anymore, but it's not wholly improbable.
