Ὕπνου ἄεισμα
”song of Sleep.” before I dive into its sweet, sweet embrace, I’d like to write something in praise, an encomium of sorts. hence, let me begin.

Sleep, you take away all ills, at least for the time while you hold us mortals in your hallowed arms, and as the cousin of Death, great and terrible Θάνατος, we die sweetly each night under your spell, and are reborn anew the next day. There are some who would spurn you, even hate you, for the nightmares you so playfully bring, and who worry that evils in the depths of your realms may spill over into our mortal, waking world. These evils generally dissipate rapidly after Sleep loosens its grip on its various subjects, and if by some strange glitch they linger, mortals will be able to deal accordingly. While you watch over us, you also watch over our souls, and we entrust them to you because we know that you will take care of them piously and dutifully. No matter what eats at us, what threatens to bring us to ruin during our waking hours, in you, august Hypnos, we find solace and ataraxic calm, our cares floating away just as our consciousness slips away into your dreamy depths. With your hazy, dreamlike sword and metamorphous shield, you destroy those external ills which plague us, and while we are in your house, we can generally find some sweet solitude. Even a troubled sleep will comfort the loneliest mortal.
Thus, watch over me as I take shelter in your fleeting embrace, and allow no harm to come to me, but beat back and rout the charnel legions and armies of Θάνατος which seek to destroy dreamers as well as all mortals in general. Allow me to dream such lucid dreams as to be able to control everything around me, remake the world as I see fit, and completely immerse myself in an alternate reality while I am dead to the world. let me dream such lofty themes in order that I might write about them later (perhaps), and set forth such brilliant, splendid visions for all to behold.

well, I was thinking about this while driving, and it didn’t come out exactly as I had thought — but hey, it’s close. if I had a pen or something with me while driving (LOL), then it would have come out the same, but I’m actually quite happy. perhaps I’ll translate this to Latin or Greek sometime. anyways… i am going to fall into Sleep’s sweet embrace now, for a couple hours at least. much love… I will write more tomorrow all about the last couple days. goodnight.

These days my entries have been more fractured and less focused. Such is life. I do what I can to give a glimpse into my life, a snapshot if possible. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

talk to me if you'd like to know something about me, or keep reading. I'm still a poor grad student and working on my PhD. I don't really know whether this will become a book anymore, but it's not wholly improbable.
