sweet and dead dreams, in case you were wondering what the title meant.
of course the dead dream, you fools! i’ve long said that the dreams of the dead are our (the living) nightmares. perhaps they transmit their dreams to us as our nightmares, or we transmit our nightmares to them as their dreams. i can’t tell. but i like the idea nonetheless. and the dreams are sweet, of course, because of the sweet suffering involved, as well as the sweet ποίησις by our brains that goes into making these lovely dreams. look at hellraiser… don’t they talk about “such sweet pleasures and pain?” and also… when I was watching Exorcist III last night, the “possessed” killer was talking about how the dead should “stop talking if they have nothing to say.” and one of the other people in the movie was “holding” an imaginary radio, and asked the detective (main character pretty much) if he was the radio repairman. he asked her what was wrong, and she said, “I keep hearing the dead on it.” AWESOME.
