now i’m going to split this fucker up into a bunch of parts, so enjoy. consume at leisure.
I. PROOIMION
litora mariaque cano quibus a lassatus redii et amicis epulabar candens circum incendium, pectoribus ardente in nostris amori; carmina cecinimus et gavisi nos propter fraternitatem amoremque communem. ibi gelidus erat et imber impluit crudus ex caelo nubiloso, tamen sine tunica diu mansi. postquam redivi dies difficiles sequuntur, sed coepta peregi et invictus mansi.
a short bit of Latin for you all. translation:
I sing of the shores and seas, from which I returned, tired, and was feasting with my friends around a glowing fire, with burning love in our hearts. We sang songs and rejoiced on account of brotherhood and common love. It was cold/frozen there, and merciless rain fell from the cloudy sky; nevertheless I remained without a coat for a long time. After I returned, difficult days followed, but I carried my undertakings through to the end and I remained unconquered.
just a slight intro to my week. now i’ve got a lot of ground to cover, so bear with me. this has been waiting to spill out for a week now, and well, i hope i can accurately tell it and keep you entertained at the same time. actually i could give a flying fuck if you’re entertained… this is not purely for entertainment. bahaha… well… i do care, i want you guys to enjoy reading this stuff and hopefully get something from it, but *shrugs* it’s all good either way.
so we left on friday night around 6pm… right? let me get my bearings, now.
II. LITORA MARIAQUE (the shores and seas)
friday, 13 may: after a good day at school, i arrived at newman center around 6pm, having packed everything and gotten a full tank of gas from my dad. i packed my Euripides book in hopes of reading something over the weekend, but alas, it didn’t happen. oh well. i also brought a notebook too, hopefully to aid me in writing all of this down, but that didn’t get used either. strike 2 of 2. lol… anyways, so i get to newman and Claude is there with his mum, and it looks like he’s got a shitload of stuff. i was worried because he had so much shit that we might not be able to fit everything, but it ended up being ok. my dad let me take his power inverter, which converts DC power (cigarette lighter < car battery) to AC power (115V outlet), which i put to good use, actually, keeping my iPod charged and also my cellphone (when i was able to use it… i’ll get to that later). so we get there and there’s a bunch of people there getting their cars ready and such, and Kristin and Carla gave me about 2 cases of food to take with me in the car, which was all good, so we loaded them in the backseat. claude put all of his shit in the trunk, and it ended up fitting alright, so that was fine, and we waited around for Danielle to get there. she called me up and said she was going to be a bit late, which was alright, but she didn’t get there until close to 7pm, which was an hour after we wanted to leave. oh well… she lives out of town, well, about 20mins out i think, so it’s alright. Alison and her friends showed up, and she was bringing her dog even (very cute dog, cf. later), and I talked to her a bit before we left. Eventually all of the people left, and I said we’d be there soon as we could, and we waited for Danielle.
she finally got there, and her dad helped us load her stuff into the car, and we were all packed and ready to go! I threw on some hiphop on my iPod and turned it down a bit so we could talk, and we were off to the coast! we chatted the whole way there, talking about all sorts of random, ridiculous shit, and Claude as usual barely talked. i think he’s shy around her… more likely girls in general. me and Danielle had a great convo though on the way up, and before we knew it, we were almost to Florence. We went through Florence and kept going north on 101, and I realised that Kristin didn’t tell us where the campsite was, but by that time it was too late, since my cellphone lost service up there in the mountains and all. We got to the campground, and stopped near the entrance, and I asked the owner (?) where they were camped, and he told us some directions that didn’t make much sense. luckily then Mike came and told us how to get there, and we drove over there and parked in one of the two campsites we rented out. got out of the car; it was great to stretch my legs and walk around a bit. Everyone was there… they were all setting up tents and such, and I gathered my shit and threw it into the tent I wanted to stay in, the one in the west campsite. We had two campsites right next to each other, so it was cool.
After we were all done getting settled in, we all just sorta chilled, and not long after we started dinner. this was around 20.00, and so it was time to eat, and Mike put some BBQ chicken on the makeshift grill we made (tinfoil over the firepit). for some reason, unbeknownst to me, they cut slits in the foil; i didn’t see the benefits of this practise, but oh well. when some of the chicken was done I grabbed a couple pieces, and they were pretty fucking good. during dinner we set up a tarp strung up between four or so trees, and moved the picnic table on our site underneath it. that proved to be very helpful the next day, actually, so i’m glad we did so. I was really psyched that Alison was on the trip, cos I wanted to talk to her a bunch and all, but it didn’t really happen; unfortunately, she had to leave the next day cos she said she was going to a cocktail party. that was chill though, oh well, i’m sure she had fun
i actually did get to talk to her a lil bit… i struck up a convo with her about her dog, who turned out to be a terrier-poodle just like Joey! that was very cool… her dog was really sweet. i told her about Joey, and Chichi (my chihuahua) and Vicki (my pug). yeah, sounds lame, but oh well…. i love my dogs. we didn’t talk much more than that, but i had nice convos with everyone else, and we sat around the glowing fire for awhile, keeping warm and smiling around it.
in the darkness i think we all came together that night, huddling around the fire, and it was really pretty cool. we talked late into the night, and (!) i know i’m playing this up…. but Alison said she had to go brush her teeth and get ready for bed, and kinda hinted that she wanted someone to hold her dog, and I gladly volunteered. her dog was really sweet… her name is Jackie, and she was pretty nice. i think that must have scored me some points, but i don’t know…. *shrugs* i was happy though. perhaps i get happy over stupid, insignificant things, but oh well. after i relinquished her dog, the rest of us staunch night-owls sat around the glowing embers of the fire until almost 2am discoursing and just having fun. i think Zack and Jed got into an argument, which was pretty fucking funny, actually… about the importance of history in one’s education and such, but I don’t remember many of the details or points outlined. it was pretty hilarious though, that’s all I remember. i think I walked with Kristin and Benni to the bathroom in the dark to keep them company and then walked them back too.
after all the fun died down, we decided to go to bed, and i used my slowly-dying cellphone as a light amid the tenebrous shades of the wood, my sole phaos, and i walked Danielle to the tent. Claude was already fast asleep, or trying to sleep when we got there, since he had gone back to the tent a couple hours earlier (people asked ‘why’d Claude go to bed so early?!?’). i got into my sleeping bag and i realised that it didn’t zip up. i laid there with the sleeping bag wrapped around me as if it were zippable, and tried to fall asleep on the cold, concretelike, chthonic clay. i sighed when i was still awake 2 hours later at around 4am, and i think then i realised that it did zip up, if only partway. apparently the upper part of the zipper got all fucked up somehow and hence was inoperable. i looked back upon when i chose which of two sleeping bags i would take, and the one i wanted to take ended up staying home. bleh. oh well. i was miserable all night, tossing and turning, my back wracked with pain, uncomfortable upon the tent floor against the unforgiving earth.
saturday, 14 may: dead. for some godawful, unearthly, godforsaken reason, Mark (who crept into our tent sometime during the night) woke up around 06.30 and made a bunch of noise. he went outside after waking up and fucking started chopping wood!!!! wood!! blargh! i, as i heard many of the others (whose tent he chopped wood next to), screamed in my head “WTF?!?!?!?!” i tried to go back to sleep, and after nightmarish tossing and turning, i ended up waking up around 10am, one of the last to get up (i think me and claude were the last, actually). i crawled out of the tent like the living dead, and apparently i had missed breakfast. grabbed my toiletries and went to go brush my teeth and put some deodorant on, and when i came back i grabbed a muffin from the supply laying next to a sound-asleep Jed in his tent. apparently i wasn’t the last one awake. yay! lol… everyone wanted to go down to the beach, and so me, Kristin, Eric, Zack and Claude went down the trail to the sea. we walked around a bit down there, and walked up to the surf, but I didn’t get in. I think Mark went too…. he was throwing around a football, and so was Eric. Alli and some others were down there as well, and eventually Danielle, Alison, Carly, and their friend Samantha came down too. Alison et al. didn’t really go with the rest of us though… she just played with her dog and kinda chilled near the stairs to the path, which was alright. Zack found a rope buried in the sand, covered with barnacles, and we tried to pull it out of the sand. actually, all of us trying didn’t work, so we abandoned that venture. after a bit we ended up going back to the campsite, and I think we were going to go to the beaches in the surrounding area.
II (a). TANGENS
on somewhat of a tangent, i just checked out the Newman Center student website and saw some new pictures from bowling and coffeehouse, yay! good to see friends, and i even found a couple pics with me in them from bowling… check them out:

that’s me on the far right, but you already know that. from left: Bene, an Italian exchange student here for this year; Zack, a friend of mine who I met this year; and Olly of course, my dear friend Olly… he’s an awesome guy. His brother Andrew is pretty fucking cool too.

from left: Olly, CLAUDE, and me.
II. LITORA MARIAQUE (back into the fray!)
but i digress! back to the matter at hand. the coast! actually, Bene (who is in the top picture, far left) went on the coast trip with us… she seems pretty nice. Before we left, Alison and her friends packed up their stuff and left, sadly
said bye to them and they went on their way…. anyways, we started out for a beach called Neptune Beach, and Mike led the way in Kristin’s car, and we followed Alli’s car as well. Mike led us to the wrong beach though, and so we backed up and left and tried again, but again, we were led to the wrong place, and finally we found the right place. if i remember correctly, we actually went down on the beach at the 2nd ‘wrong place’ before we realised our mistake. I didn’t really see the problem or why we had to go to another place, but oh well. when we got to the ‘right place,’ we walked a bit along the roadside to another area nearby and descended to the beach. Jed led us down the left fork, which I should have been wary of, but oh well — and it was almost a vertical run downhill of slippery, sandy slopes. thankfully I made it down in one piece, and we walked around towards the ocean and saw a copious amount of tidepools! yay! we walked around and looked at the sea anemones and all the other fun stuff to see, such as a million different starfish and etc., and there was even a park ranger down there telling us a bit about the tidepools and such. We kept walking around, and I went with Kristin, Claude, Danielle, Carla, and Bene, and we found a little spot in the corner of the park, a ways from the ocean — from which a river flowed, and we walked upstream amid many smooth rocks, perfect for throwing. I ended up sitting on a log and talking to Carla a bit and throwing rocks at others in hopes of breaking them… lol… it was pretty chill. after awhile though, we had to go, and we all went back to our cars and returned to the campsite. Alli and Mark had to pack up, though, because Mark had to get to work (at Costco) in about 2 or 3hrs after that, and it was an hourlong drive home; unfortunately he didn’t take his own car, so Alli had to go too. *shrugs* so they left, and we went back to the campsite and got some lunch. we made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which were really good. after a bit of downtime, everyone wanted to go down to the beach and swim!
I decided I was going to stay there, though, and look after the fire Jed had just built, and he was going to stay too. seeing everyone else going though made me want to go, and so I grabbed my swim trunks and changed and ran down to the beach via the trail we used before. now, it was maybe in the 60s at the most temperature-wise, and I realised the water would most likely be very cold, but I didn’t care. took off my shirt and ran into the water with the others, and while gelid and shockingly cold at first, I got used to it, and cracked up hysterically as the waves hit me and smiled. worried whether I’d get hypothermia, but didn’t care for the moment and just kept having fun. oh, i forgot to mention…. Olly showed up with Jeni just before we left for the beach, and so he was there too, and most of the other guys got in the water too. I think Danielle jumped in there as well, and Bene did for sure. Zack was going crazy in the water too, he loved that cold water I guess, lol…. anyways, I probably made a tactical error, because I didn’t bring a towel with me whatsoever. I also didn’t bring a change of shoes (well I did, but they were sitting in the trunk of my car forgotten), and so when I got out of the freezing water, soaked, I had only my shirt to dry me off while the winds whipped at me and chilled me even more. my feet were also so wet and sandy that I didn’t dare try to get into my socks, and thus I made the trek back to camp with no shoes, carrying my shoes with the socks sitting in them.
bad idea. the path all the way back, with few exceptions, was hard, pointy gravel. i’m surprised my feet weren’t bloodied when i got back; they were just dirty though. i walked on the grass as much as i could… i even walked on the moss when i got into the more forested part of the trail. alas though, the path right near the campsites was all pointy, large gravel, and i winced as i walked over it. made me realise that i take my shoes for granted, big-time. and i could never be a shoe-hating hippie… LOL
not all hippies hate shoes, but i’ve seen a lot of them sans shoes I guess. when i got back i ran to the showers and washed the sand and dirt off, getting wetter in the process, and dried myself with my shirt. i laid my shirt and shorts out to dry on one of the benches, and they never really quite dried (that was mainly due to the immense deluge later on, though).
after all of this, could it get any more action-packed? yes. we went off to Florence proper, and parked down in Old Town and walked around exploring. we sort of lost track of the group, and I think me, Danielle, Claude and Zack were walking around and eventually met up with the group at a coffee shop at the very westmost end of the waterfront. got some hot chocolate and sat there for a bit drinking it, and by that time everyone had left to walk around some more except me, Danielle and Claude. we walked around trying to find everyone, and I saw a book in the window of a store as I walked by… Oregon’s Ghosts and Monsters! now i thought that looked cool as fuck, so I went in and bought it right then and there. i read it when i got home, actually, and it was a very good read, having some stories about the ghost in South Eugene’s auditorium, and also about the ghost at Heceta Head (Heceta Head, coincidentally, was about 10-15min from where we camped). anyways, we eventually met up with everyone else, but we hung out with Eric for a bit; he was sleeping in the car while we walked around, and when he finally woke up we met up with him and went down on a couple of the docks and such. When we all reconvened, we went over to Safeway to get some provisions: hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. and then me, Danielle and Claude (Zack too? can’t remember) drove back to the campsite, and Kristin et al. followed us, but they had to get gas first.
when we got back we started a fire and threw on some hotdogs and hamburgers, which were perfect. Olly and Bene started making hamburger patties, and started playing this ridiculous fucking game saying that they were making little children out of the burgers or some shit like that. it was weird but kinda funny at the same time… lol… and so we ate and were happy and merry. i think most of the people went off to the beach again, but me, Carla, Jed, and Danielle stayed around the warm fire as it burned and we all talked and shot the shit for awhile. Jed played guitar and sang a bunch, and we sang some songs along with him, and then everyone started trickling back into the campsite. I think I asked Jed about what happened at Alli’s house too, because she had said her house was haunted or something of the like the night before, but refused to speak about it. Apparently some satanic cult lived there and sacrificed animals before they moved in, and Jed told me that they can sometimes hear sacrificial animals bleating, and candles light on their own, “by demons” as he said. “That’s fucking awesome, man!” I exclaimed, and he said “No, it’s not…. if I didn’t know the people and it wasn’t so close to me, then I might think so, but no…” *shrugs* I thought it was cool though. we really don’t have enough haunted houses around here. lol… i hope he or Alli don’t get pissed for me talking bout this, but I doubt they will ever read this, so oh well!
Not long after we talked some about ghosts, rain started to fall in torrents and a deluge was imminent, it seemed. we quickly tried to get under cover, and the tarp we put up earlier helped a lot. i still didn’t utilise my coat, which I should have… I think actually I did grab it, but I can’t remember. I don’t think that was until the next morning though. We all decided to go into the big tent that Jed and most of the people slept in, and they wanted to sing songs and all and just chill in there. there was almost no light, though, since it was almost 22.00 and dark as pitch out. I found a comfortable spot, and so did Danielle and Claude and everyone else, and we sang songs and had fun and relaxed from the storm. I was reluctant to go to sleep that night, since the tent had proven to be a very inhospitable place to sleep without an air mattress or pad, but I had to go to bed sometime, and finally me and Danielle walked back there. Olly was sleeping in our tent too, apparently. I couldn’t sleep well that night either, unfortunately, and felt miserable as hell when I woke up the next morning. I did better than Danielle though, who got verily soaked by rain leaking into the tent…
sunday, 15 may: death: pure, unadulterated death. that’s how i felt when i woke up. i woke up around 9am, and started packing my stuff up. got it all loaded into the car… brushed my teeth and such, and then helped Jed take down his tent. i think we were all a bit ornery and tired that day, so not everyone was in high spirits really, including me. i wasn’t looking forward to driving home in the rain, however much I like rain… i was tired and just wanted to be home and sleeping in my comfortable bed. we listened to Miles Davis all the way home, turned down but still audible so we could hear the glorious tunes, and me and Danielle talked practically the whole way with Claude silent per the usual. I offered to take Danielle home, but she said she could get a ride from her parents; we dropped Claude off at his place and helped him get his stuff in, and then I took her to the Newman Center. we unloaded the rest of the food that Kristin had us take and brought it in, and also brought in some of the gear (the tarp, etc.), and helped with a few things, then I left when Danielle’s parents got there and she left too. I told Kristin I’d probably not be going to mass or the Mexico meeting that night, and she said that was fine.
got home, and my mum came bearing gifts: a brand-new, glorious Criterion Collection DVD of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou! I haven’t seen it yet, but my uncle got it for me as a belated birthday present and brought it up for me when he came to celebrate his own birthday (early, since his bday is 26 May [i think?]). i was psyched as hell, cos I really wanted to see it but never did, and now I own it… I loved The Royal Tenenbaums, so I’m sure I’ll love this. perhaps one of you will have to watch it with me
anyways, I dropped my stuff off at home and then I went over to Jenn’s to see her, since I hadn’t seen her since Friday. went over there and crashed for about 3hrs, and then tried to do some homework but didn’t succeed really. I didn’t leave there until almost 11, per the usual, and then got home, nothing having been completed over the weekend. terrified, I realised I had Greek homework to do, and also had to finish a tragedy for my Tragedy class. if I remember correctly, I stayed up really really late, but didn’t really get anything done, and woke up late too.
III. EX PONTO AD INANEM VITAM QUOTIDIANAM (from the sea to inane, quotidian life)
monday, 16 may: terrified, i woke up and it was 09.55. class at 10am, and thus i was horribly, horribly late. i got the fuck up out of bed, and asked my mum to give me a ride, which she did, and we sped down there. i arrived there around 10.10, and embarrassed, i tried to open the door of the classroom, but it was locked. John finally opened it for me and I slipped inside with a hushed “sorry!” and walked over to the nearest open seat. apparently, according to my friend Evin (who is in the class, and also who I know from Shopko), 4 people had walked in late before me and forgotten to leave the door open each time. that’s 5 interruptions including me…. each person forgot to leave the door open in case someone else came in. I left the door open, however. God knows why they lock the fucking door during class, it’s retarded… anyways, after that, i believe I went off and got a bagel. they know me fairly well at Milky Way now, at least well enough that they just have to say “onion” and I smile and nod or say “please.” i’m such a sucker for onion bagels, seriously, at least the ones there. they’re divine. just fucking divine. it’s funny too, Blythe’s friend Scott (i think that’s his name?) works there, and he was in Dr. Faustus with her; he said he was also in the Kafka: Parables play going on right now, which I *really* want to see. I don’t know when I’ll have time to see it, though, since it’s only playing on weekends and this weekend is full up, and most likely next is too.
when is Blythe getting back, anyways? I miss her like hell
i haven’t heard from her for weeks, which saddens me… but i’m sure she is just busy and everything will be ok. but yeah… as far as I know, I went back home after school and tried (key word: tried) to do my Latin homework. i got most all of it done that night, and a lot of it done the next morning too. I love having one class at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays… makes it real easy.
tuesday, 17 may: Me and Jenn’s ‘anniversary,’ at least our ‘monthly’ one, kinda came and went. i think she had to work today, so it was somewhat anticlimactic, which was to be expected. we’ve kinda downplayed them these days really… anyways, i went to Latin and read a shitload, and then went home after that. i don’t think i went to Jenn’s that night, though, but just tried to get my Greek done and get it done I did! actually, i was supposed to be studying for my Greek exam, but didn’t even start studying until 23.00 that night and went to sleep about an hour later. so much for studying! lol…
IV. IOCUS ET PUELLA REPERTA (joke, and a girl having been found)
wednesday, 18 may: woke up on time, surprisingly, but still terrified that I needed to finish a tragedy, and also terrified at the thought of my Greek exam looming, so I didn’t get to school until right before class started. it was alright though, and i started right away on studying for Greek. we were finishing the Patrokleia, or the “deeds of Patroklos,” in which Patroklos is killed by Hektor after killing many Trojans (this is in the Iliad, remember?). took the test, and it wasn’t all that bad, but I still have a healthy sense of worrying when it comes to tests. after that, i was free, and Jenn gave me a ride back to my house, where I got my car and drove over to her place. going to Jenn’s on a day I have to study Latin was a bad idea, though… I didn’t get any done, and basically talked to Christine and her the whole time. the funniest thing happened that night though, and I have to write it down before I forget how hysterical it was…
Before Christine got home, she was waiting for this guy Jerick who she works with. She has a HUGE crush on this guy, and so she called us right after she got off of work and told us what she was doing. She said he came up to her car window and surprised her, more like frightened her, with a platter of tuna fish sandwiches. TUNA? she refused politely, but I think she got out of her car and started talking to him. she knows I say stupid shit, and she knows better than to pass off the phone randomly, but she sure as hell did…. me and Jenn were on speakerphone, and I was listening to the convo she was having and talking a bit, and then Christine passed off the phone to Jerick right as I was saying:
“Man, I bet Jerick has hairy dog balls. And a sheath for his dick.“
wahahaha…. he goes “Is this David?!?” I didn’t say anything.
“Who is this?” Jenn said.
“Josie,” he replied.
“No, cmon, who is this?” Jenn said.
“This is Jerick.” he finally admitted.
Christine abruptly got back on the phone and said “What the fuck did you say?!?” I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jenn laugh as fucking hard as she did right then. She was fucking rolling on the bed, literally laughing her fucking ass off, it was so funny. “Did you just say he has hairy dog balls?!?!?” Christine asked. omfg…. i was rollin too, it was so fucking funny. She was pissed as hell though, because she said “Now he knows that I talk about him with you guys, cos you said his name…” and she was ridiculously pissed.
I was actually kinda worried that when she got home she might try and kick my ass for it, and she was pretty mad when she got back. actually Jenn and me were laying on her bed, sans clothes, and Christine stormed into the room and started mock-punching me and sounded pretty mad. I didn’t give a fuck if I was naked under the covers, I was like shite, pull them off if you want, I don’t give a fuck, you can’t humiliate me, love… LOL…. anyways, that was random. but yeah, she was pissed, but I told her it would be ok and promised her that nothing but good would come of this. Even she thought it was funny in retrospect, and was incredulous at me saying he had “hairy dog balls.” Actually, I picked up the “hairy dog balls” online, sadly… it wasn’t my own invention. it was the genius saying of my dear friend darwin, who said it in the following context:
[15:04] <+Greyor[a]> keep it real, represent what, my nutsss
[15:04] <@darwin> I’m saying.
[15:06] <@darwin> your mouth filled with hairy dog balls!
classic, huh? an instant classic
anyways, so i was inspired, yes. however, after awhile I had to leave for mass, since mass was at 21.00, and Jenn made some bacon before I left, the supply of which I jacked pretty much half of, lmfao! thus i went off to mass. when I got to mass, no one was there yet, and no one arrived until very close to 21.00, which is the usual as far as I know. sat next to Claude and my friend Jake, and also next to the “Big Belt,” aka Eric. mass was pretty standard, but it did have its highlights: get this shite…. Claude didn’t have a date for the formal on Saturday night (well it’s tonight now, since it’s like almost 5am Saturday morn now)… and I told him, “dude, go ask Andrea to the dance!” He just fucking busted up there and asked her… I was so surprised! She said that she was going with someone else already though, sadly. I told him to ask Alison too, and he said OK, and went up and asked her out of the blue, but she said she has to work Saturday night, sadly
anyways, i’ll tell more about this later… but… when we gathered around the altar at the front, as we always do on Wednesday nights, I stood right next to Alison! i was psyched hehe…. you guys probably think i have some psycho fixation, but i really don’t, I just think she’s an awesome person and I guess I think about her often. anyways, when we prayed the Our Father, I got to hold her hand, and then she gave me a big hug for ‘peace,’ which was fucking illy. hell, she even gave Claude a hug! after mass, we all went downstairs as is usual and mingled and bullshitted and all.
Andrew was psyched that Claude had asked Andrea and Alison, and congratulated him and all. Now I was set on getting Claude a date for the dance, so when there were only a few people left, or fewer at least, I told him “Ask Holly if she wants to go.” Holly’s a nice girl, seems very nice, and she’s going on the Mexico trip with me, and she just happened to be standing nearby, so I thought Claude should give it a shot asking her. Well, he went over and asked her, and a few minutes later, both of them came over to me and she said “Claude’s taking me to the formal!” I did a fucking double-take and was like “dude, congratulations, that’s fucking awesome!!!” i was proud of that motherfucker right then and there. After that I talked to Holly for a bit, and she is pretty cool to talk to. I think Claude will have fun tomorrow, or I hope so at least. After mass I went home, and was worried because I didn’t get any Latin done…..
thursday, 19 may: i woke up around 08.30, and i realised it was a lost cause getting my Latin done for the day, so I decided to skip for the day. i know, i know…. but i hate going unprepared, I feel like such an idiot. i ended up sleeping, with terrifying dreams, until 13.30 when my class was over, and my mum didn’t even know I didn’t go to class. i don’t remember, but i don’t think i went to jenn’s that night, but I just stayed home and didn’t do shit… Jenn had to work, that’s what! she had to work from like 15.30 to 23.30 or something of the like. I pretty much dicked around all day and played Blood2 and chilled…. it was nice. however, I found out that I had to go to a make-up Mexico meeting at 19.00, and worried I’d miss the OC season finale. yes, i know, lame, whatever, but it’s a guilty pleasure, you know this. The meeting got out around 19.45 though and I was able to make it home in time for OC at 20.00, so it was all good. beautiful season finale if you ask me, personally… I need to grab a copy off of BT and make a dvdr for Jenn, actually, since her TiVo missed it I think.
get this: Christine called me around 9pm or so (?) and told me that Jerick just up and gave her his number! I was like FUCK YEAH!!! that’s awesome!! i was like “i fucking told you so…..” lol… she’s like “don’t tell Jenn… I want to surprise her!” and I didn’t tell Jenn. i was happy for her, i’m glad and all
as the night progressed, I hadn’t done any of my Greek and I wasn’t tired, but I ended up doing a lot of my Greek and then just staying up until almost 5am. I stayed up until around 2 or 2.30 doing Greek and then played Blood2 for a couple more hours, and then I fell into a troubled, mostly dreamless sleep until 7am.
V. PHAIDIME HEMERE (a shining day)
friday, 20 may: woke up on time, for the most part, but then ended up not becoming fully conscious until 9am. worried about finishing the Bacchae for today, and so I read it in full in an hour… whew… that’s exhilarating. What a gorgeous play! anyways, I got to class on time and there was no quiz, just discussion about the play and finishing up. i’ve got to write an essay on Euripides for Monday, and I hope I’ll have some time this weekend to work on it. I need to make sure I get an A on it, too. after class I got a bagel per the usual, good nourishment, and then hit the books to finish my Greek. We started reading the Hoplopoiia, or “Making of the Arms/Armor,” an episode in the Iliad which takes up most (all?) of Book 18: Hephaistos’ forging of Achilles’ arms and armor, namely his gigantic five-layered shield that looks like a motherfucking movie in bronze. the 50 lines we had to read were fucking brilliant, and I loved every minute of translating them. I’ll have to throw some up here soon probably
in any case, after I got done with Greek, my mum gave me a ride home, and it was my lucky day today! my grandma gave me $20 for some spending money, since I’m broke, and my dad gave me $15 for gas, which got me a half-tank. Also: my book of Ennius’ Annales came today; it looked like it was a brand-new printed copy from the publisher itself. Perhaps it was… I can’t understand the invoice because it’s in German and the book is from Germany. anyways, I’m psyched that it came!! AND: my passport came!!!!!!!! just 10 days after I renewed it, it came…. it was worth the $60 I paid to expedite it, because I actually need it by this weekend and now it’s here! thank God.
after I got some gas, I went to go get some food (burger king), and right before I walked in the door there, an insane squall rose up and rain just burst out of the skies, a fucking deluge rained down on me. there was an old lady waiting outside for a bus or something, and one of the girls working at burger king offered to give her a ride home, which showed me that corporations can still provide kindnesses occasionally. after i ate, i went to fred meyer and got some gas, then went to jenn’s house. I tried to fix her PrintServer, which lets her printer be connected only through the wireless and not have to be connected to her laptop, and finally I had to call Linksys to get help. I should have fucking realised that you can’t expect DHCP to work out for something such as that, so I gave it a static IP of 192.168.1.3, and it worked perfectly after that. Bastards. I had planned on going to a thing tonight called “Theology on Tap,” where you can have a brew and listen to a speaker talk about theology and religion, so I told Jenn I had to go and thus left. I was planning on meeting Claude there and all, and I told him I’d call him, but he called me like 5 times, and I got pissed as hell and said fuck it, I’m not answering and I’m not calling him until I feel like it…. however, he called right when I was close to Riverridge, the place the thing was at (a golf course), and I said “fuck it, I won’t go, I’ll meet you at your place and we’ll just kick it there.” The irresistible pull of Theology on Tap made us mad, though, and we went off to Riverridge anyways when I got to Claude’s, and thus we sat there and listened to the speaker, who was talking about apocalyptic texts such as Revelations and all. I don’t know much about all this, so it was kind of interesting to hear about it. and hey, free food
after the thing, we were going to hang out with Paul and some other cats, but then I talked to Jenn. she informed me that Christine broke up with Dan today. now that’s some shocking news for me… I didn’t think she would ever go through with it. I’m glad she did, though, as bad as that may sound, because they really weren’t a good match for each other. Christine had told Jenn not to tell I think though, so I kept quiet until Christine chose to tell me herself. I decided to go hang out with them for awhile, because I wanted to make sure Christine was OK, and so when me and Claude drove back to his house, I got my car and I drove over to Jenn’s parents’ house, where she was doing her FAFSA. We hung out at Jenn’s parents’ for awhile, and then went back to Jenn and Christine’s place, and chilled there for most of the rest of the night. I spent some quality time with both of them, moreso with Jenn (LOL), and then left there around midnight.
I had hoped Paul and the rest of the people would be up for doing something afterwards, but no dice. I ended up going to 7-11 and getting some munchies, while tempted to get a 40 of something, lol, and then went home and watched some Family Guy. now i’m here writing and it’s a little after 5am, and I should really sleep soon. I knew I was going to stay up really fucking late tonight heheh…. anyways, all of you have a wonderful night, ok? i’ll write about the dance tomorrow i’m sure
