in response to melissa’s rants (hehe): we elide “often” into “offen.” it’s common in greek and latin to combine two dissonant letters, such as in the verb colligo, “to bring together,” which is a compound of cum, “with, together” + lego, “to collect, gather” (generally, though, it means “to read”). cum changes form to the more familiar “con,” which features prominently in later languages such as Spanish. Conlego looks and sounds dissonant, though, so the n gets sucked into the l-sound, and apparently lego changes to ligo in compounds, hence COLLIGO. QED.
anyways, i’m bein all scholarly. look at other words… we tend to conflate D and T sounds, such as in the world “turtle,” even in proper names as well, but it’s understandable, just colloquial. colloquial too is another word
take cum + loquor (“to speak”), throw it in a blender, you get conloquor, which sounds and looks ugly, so here we go, colloquor, “to speak with.” QED again. and QED is even Latin…. quod erat demonstrandum (est demonstrandum). “That which was to have been proven,” roughly. The thing I added means “has been proven.”
in other news, life is good. work was fucking long today. argh. no work next weekend though, so that means i need to chill with some of you fine people perhaps! homework to do soon. church at 19.30. tired. i don’t want to go back to school tomorrow. bleh. otherwise, im sorry, i feel bad because i haven’t been all that inspired lately. in any case, much love, i’ll be around. hit me up if you like!

LOL that was about the biggest load of BULLSHIT ACADEMICNESS I’ve ever heard!!!! Haha I love you anyway though. And I understand how we morph words and how we conflate and all that crap.. i took a 400 level phonetics class after all.. but it’s not conflating it when we say “offin” insted of “often.” It’s just completely disregarding the presence of a “t” altogether, which, if you ask me, is pretty arrogant and rude to the word “often.” figures, though, americans……. don’t get me started.
) you’re still cool in my book though! …i hereby give you NO EPROPS for that. lmao…

Haha another reason I love Eugene. Save your “heil Bush” for when we liberate Iran, because we continue to suspect that they are producing WMD’s. This time we will find them even if we have to put them there ourselves.

how’s things? it’s been a strange-ass day. i’m sure this will be in the emerald tomorrow, but here you get it from the horse’s mouth.
some crazy motherfucker crashed into a gravestone in the cemetery next to the knight library at school….
wahahaha! i walked by there, cos i was gonna walk through the graveyard to get to my car, and i saw all these people standing around. it was funny as fuck, really, a hilarious sight. some assclown had his car crashed into a gravestone…. christ i was tryin not to laugh. jenn called me and i was like ‘yeah, some crazy motherfucker just crashed into this gravestone…. this shit is pretty fucking weird…’ anyways, i got to my car and drove home, then got on the computer. talked to some friends for a bit…. then eventually went over to jenn’s to study. we didn’t get all that much done, but we tried.
oh yeah! earlier today. well…. i talked to my new friend Blythe on AIM a bunch this morning early on, which was great, she is a real sweetheart! tried to write my essay later on this morning, but crashed around 3am. woke up at 6.53, mortified. fucking mortified. i got up and immediately did my reading i needed to do — reread Hesiod, and then read selections from the Odyssey. didn’t start writing my essay until 11am though, and it was due at 12. 3pg. i hope i didnt fuck it up too bad. tired. anyways, i was actually able to get my paper turned in by 12 noon (5min late to class tho), and then read enough Latin to translate for class at 2pm.
this entry is somewhat backwards, but oh well. much love. peace.

yeah, i’m in a pensive mood. tired. stayed up way way too fucking late, like 3am late. decided to join up on thefacebook.com, as i said, and it’s cool. added myself to a bunch of ill groups on there, which hopefully will bear some interesting people. didn’t go to class, however, either one of them today, and i feel like an idiot for staying up too late. greek i wasn’t prepared for, so even though i got to school on time for it, i didn’t go, and here i am sitting here in mckenzie.
I hope this facebook thing is gonna be cool… it seems like a myspace clone, but is a lot cooler since there’s only cats from UO on there, at least there is a microcosm of UO, and then it branches out to other schools, and I can also look up people I went to high school with. also a chance to meet people i wouldn’t normally talk to or meet on the street or in classes, and that’s cool in itself.
anyways, i need to listen to some music. i’m music-starved, for fuck’s sake. ima throw on some Charizma or some shit like that, and rock to it after i get home. shoulda brought my iPod. i’ve got a paper to write, though, for gender and sexuality, and also a shitload of Latin to read. fuck. i really need to catch up this weekend, for sure. it’s been a short week though, due to Monday off, and I like that. 3 pages to write tonight, then a load of latin to read as i said, hmm…. yeah, i am really liking this facebook thing. sorry, it’s new, the novelty is always fun. but fuck, it’s awesome!
it’s a pretty nice day outside. blue skies above and such. not too hot either, fairly temperate. i kinda miss the cold though. i’ll be glad when this week is over, but then i have to work on saturday which fucking sucks. why the fuck does it smell like weed in here? i swear to god, it smells like weed and this is mckenzie fucking hall…. strange. i hate that smell. in any case, how are all of you doing? i feel like i’ve been out of touch with many of my friends lately, and it’s unfortunate. i’ve been doing the best i can though, and i’m sure you all know that. it’s been a tumultuous, weird week. good to be alive, though. i remember this morning i was in that terrifying limbo between waking and sleep, and it’s always fun, although terrifying as i said. weird feeling. nightmares too, but i can’t remember them, they just left shadowy imprints on my consciousness and i just remember that they were there, not anything else.
Jaymie said to me last night that the Latin language isn’t beautiful, but that it’s ugly and usually looks evil. isn’t that the attraction though? the evilness, the maleficent-sounding words? i think that’s one of the things that got me into Latin, because I’d seen it in horror stories and such, and loved how it looked. But it is a beautiful language… just read some Vergil, Lucretius, maybe some Ovid… and you’ll see the beauty. All that alliteration, cf. Lucretius’ flammantia moenia mundi — the flaming walls of the world! try saying that. does that not sound cool? how about an interesting, interlocking word order, such as this example from something I wrote myself:
sublucent crepuscula per meam fenestram pulchrissima dum sidera nitentia aetheri caelestesque orbes gelidas (sed non incommodas) putrefactasque tenebras illuminant.
The most beautiful twilight glimmers through my window, while the shining stars and ethereal planets illuminate the icy and decaying (but not uncomfortable) darkness.
No? Not good? I’ll explain. The word order is as follows, in the Latin:
glimmers twilight through my window [the most beautiful] while the stars shining ethereal [celestial and orbs == planets] icy (but not uncomfortable) [and decaying] darkness illuminate.
Put that together into proper English word order, and you get what’s below the italics. Now do you see how fucking brilliant Latin is?
sublucent crepuscula per meam fenestram pulchrissima dum sidera nitentia aetheri caelestes orbes gelidas (sed non incommodas) putrefactasque tenebras illuminant.
noun/adjective pairs:
– crepuscula pulchrissima (beautiful twilight)
– sidera nitentia (shining stars)
– aetheri caelestesque orbes (ethereal celestial orbs == ethereal planets)
– gelidas (sed non incommodas) putrefactasque tenebras (icy [but not uncomfortable] and decaying darkness)
sublucent’s subject is crepuscula pulchrissima, and illuminant‘s subject is sidera nitentia aetheri caelestesque orbes.
well, i’ve bored you all enough. in any case, this shit makes me happy, and it’s a lot of fun. so Jaymie, if you read this, perhaps you’ll understand my fascination. doesnt it make sense? *shrugs* but yeah, i’ll be around later. much love. peace.

Yeah sorry about the 3…LoL I dunno what happened I got up and it had sent random numbers to a few people on my list…my computer has been freaking out lately though so maybe it’s part of that. One night it shut down in the middle of the night for no reason (I was just falling asleep and I heard it shut down but didn’t really care) then the next morning I power it back up and it brings up the windows login screen and it says I have 2 things running then windows starts up with ym and ie running…it was weird….well I’ve got some math homework I should be getting to…I’ll see ya around
Goodluck with all the shit you need to do.
