subterranean lake

a calm, dark pool of utter blackness. no starlight penetrates the rock above, but there is luminescence down here, something welling up from the earth itself and lighting the otherwise-eternal night. it would be difficult to explore such places in real life, yet they do exist in the depths of caves. all I can do is fashion my own version with my mind, although there are accounts of such caves being extant. eidola in the dark

I’m writing notes on secondary scholarship for my thesis today, as I did yesterday as well. We watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last night (which I’d just as soon call Indy 4), and I was overall unimpressed but I thought it was worth seeing at least once. Too much about aliens (although I heard Lucas wanted even more, such as rayguns and shit), and it felt often like The Mummy Returns, well, returned. It wasn’t a waste of time, but it just fell short, and that’s easy to do given the span since the last movie, and up to that which it had to live (thanks Olbermann!). (more…)

living on the plain of Troy

and December’s upon us, although November’s just barely begun, as one week dies and another begins in this cyclical paradise in which we live. I accomplished a good deal this weekend on my thesis, but I’m going to get a lot more done in the next week and a half before I meet again with my advisor. We meet again on the 21st, which happens to be my darling Nicole’s birthday as well. I want to find her a suitable gift, either something wrought myself or possibly bought, but nothing too extravagant, just something special and from the heart. But I’ll sort that out. (more…)

the far-shining light of belated Dawn

It’s been a long week, somehow, and I’m glad to be in a somewhat better spot tonight. The election went well on Tuesday, as I said before, yet I was a bit scared about my meeting with my advisor on Friday. I hadn’t gotten as much done as I would have liked on my thesis, and I resolved to work on it all night Thursday as a result. Don’t try this at home, kids, for it’s oft-fruitless and inane.     well, it’s official…. Barack Obama is our next president, and I am extremely happy about this. I was worried today if he could do it, and last night I couldn’t sleep very well, probably as a result — but he did it. I’ll not say more, not now at least — that’s all that needs to be said. I’m just glad all of the campaign stress is over — it’s been a long time. (more…)

a distinct chill in the air

well, the fog and cold and mist came back, at least for one day so far. This morning the sun shone brightly through the misty haze, and I was glad I’d brought my hoodie with me as I headed off to work. It was a good weekend really, and I got a lot done on my thesis — 11 pages so far, which isn’t a lot, but it’s better than nothing. I’ll be working more on it tomorrow during the day; tonight I’m a bit burnt out. if this weather keeps up, it’ll feel more like october/november should be, and is a welcome portent. (more…)

  • about me

i tend to muse about whatever happens to be on my mind, and heavily inject my posts with much of my quotidian life -- as much as i can reconstruct of it, at least. at the same time, if you look hard enough, you can see a lot of my personal philosophy shine through here. ποιήσης, as well as any forging of creative works, take the front burner here too.

basically, if you want to know anything about me, i'd suggest talking to me (cf. myspace in the links), or hell, just continue reading. i am a poor grad student, also, if you didn't know, and i'm trying to make it through school in hopes of getting a PhD in Classics and being a professor. yep. thank you kindly for reading -- one of these days, you all will see this in book form. i swear it.

enjoy reading my blog? would I enjoy reading yours? feel free to drop me comments on here, or even an email at:
